Rules & Points for Professionals
Participation & Rules
- Professional and Amateur must be registered with the NDCA and current on dues to participate in the tour.
- Syllabus material should be based on NDCA requirements.
- To start participating in the MIB Dance Tour, enter one of this season's MIB scholarships, MIB Newcomer Multi Dance Events, or a Solo Exhibition.
- Sign up for MIB Dance Tour events using the registration form provided by the competition you are attending.
Scholarship Qualifications
- In order to compete in scholarships, you must dance the same number of single dance entries as are included in each scholarship event, in the same style (Smooth, Rhythm, Ballroom, or Latin).
- Competitors may dance in only one proficiency level (Closed Bronze, Closed Silver, or Advanced) and one age group (A: 18-50 or B: 51+) per style.
- You may only enter the scholarship that reflects the highest level of proficiency of single dances you have entered in that style.
- Example: If a competitor dances in Bronze and Pre-Silver, they may only enter the Silver scholarship.
- Bronze and Silver scholarships are closed to Bronze and Silver students respectively.
Newcomer Multi Dance Events
- Newcomer events are offered in all 4 styles and 2 age divisions (A: 18-50, B: 51+).
- A newcomer is defined as someone with 50 hours or fewer of ballroom instruction and no more than 5 NDCA competitions prior to the tour.
- Competitors may enter Newcomer and Bronze Scholarship, but NOT Newcomer and Silver or Advanced Scholarship.
Solo Exhibition Points
- Mark the MIB Tour box on the competition's Solo Exhibition entry form to accumulate points toward the Pro Awards.
- Solo points do not count toward the Grand Champion Award.
Tour Finale & Awards
- Winners must be present at the MIB Tour Finale (Eastern U.S. Dancesport Championship) to receive awards, except for valid medical reasons.
- Entries added after heat lists are posted will not count toward season points, except in approved emergency situations.
- Ties for 1st place in style awards will be resolved with a 90-second dance-off.
- In the event of a tie for Pro Awards, prize money will be combined and split equally.
- Optional social activities may be offered at competitions but are not required for award eligibility.
NOTE: There are no gender restrictions. The amateur must be the leader and the professional the follower.
The Point System
- Professionals earn points through participation, placements, and additional bonus opportunities.
- Points accumulate throughout the entire season toward Pro Awards standings.
How Points Are Earned
- Participation Points: 1 point per MIB event entered.
- Placement Points: Based on placement in finals, plus 2 points per callback.
- Bonus Points: Professionals may earn additional points for bringing students to compete in MIB events.
Solo Exhibition Points
- Solo scores convert into tiered point values toward Pro Awards.
- Example scoring tiers:
- Scores 100-90 = 3 points
- Scores 89.9-80 = 2 points
- Scores below 80 = 1 point
